Creating Live Action Videos (Mac)

In this workshop attendees will watch and participate in a demonstration of the creation of a live action video, from planning and scripting, to shooting and editing footage.  The demonstration will focus on best practice and simple strategies for capturing well-lit footage with clear audio either using the library studios or their own equipment (e.g. cell phone) Time will also be dedicated to on-camera presentation skills. The second half of the workshop will focus on editing footage in iMovie, a free application found on all Apple computers.

After this workshop attendees will be able to:

  • Book time and equipment in the Humber Libraries Studio spaces.

  • Plan and script/storyboard a video for an assignment.

  • Implement strategies for recording well-lit video footage with clear audio that is suitable for editing.

  • Locate royalty-free and Creative Commons licensed images and music (and attribute when necessary).

  • Locate the major editing functions (trim, add text, transitions, and music, adjust audio levels, remove green screen, export) in iMovie.
